How to Create a Zen Garden in a Small Space

If you have a very small apartment or a very small garden area and you are looking for ways to improve its functionality, you should try out apartment gardening. This is actually an excellent solution for small spaces, as it allows you to use your garden even if you have a very limited space. This way, you can still enjoy the benefits that apartment gardening has to offer. Read on to find out more about how you can maximize the space in your apartment by using plants in your Zen garden.

Before getting started with apartment gardening, it would be better if you already have an idea of what type of plants and flowers you will be putting in your garden. By doing this, you won’t waste your time and effort to choose plants that won’t fit your space. For example, if your garden has limited space, then go for plants that don’t require much of tilling and that can grow easily in small areas. Examples of these types of plants are herbs and vegetables. If you don’t want to have too many plants in your garden and you have a smaller area to work with, you can opt for a simple flower bed instead of a flower arrangement. Keep in mind though that you should only use water-based fertilizers so that your plants will be healthy.

Another thing you can do to utilize the limited space in your apartment is to use wall mounted containers. These are especially handy because they are placed right above your plants so that they can get the full benefit of sunlight. The only downside is that these containers tend to occupy a lot of vertical space. However, as long as you can fit them in your garden and if you know where to place them, you should be fine.

Aside from containers, you can also choose between hanging and standing pots. Hanging pots are ideal for small spaces because you can just keep adding soil and water. For those with limited space, this is probably your best option because it allows you to easily move the pots around. On the other hand, standing pots are more stable and easier to maintain. Of course, you can always have both of these if you have enough space.

Speaking of plants, the Zen garden doesn’t necessarily require any special plants. As long as you have plenty of flat surfaces to place them on, you can have virtually any type of plant. However, it helps if you use soil that is slightly acidic. In this way, your plants will have a better root growth and their roots will stretch much further. You can also put a plant pot in your apartment if you want to have more plants.

As for watering, it is recommended that you keep your garden’s water supply limited to once a week. If you frequently water your garden, you might find that the soil becomes soggy. In addition to that, regular watering also affects the root growth of your plants. So it would be best if you do not over-water your garden.

Last, but not least, it helps if you create an environment that your garden is designed for. If you have a very small apartment, there is no point in creating a garden that requires a lot of space. And on the other hand, if you live in a large house or if you can afford a larger apartment, a garden may be an ideal idea for you. You could transform your apartment or small house into a garden all by yourself.

Zen gardens are not only beautiful but they are very useful and beneficial to your life. If you live in a small area, this kind of garden will surely be a good idea. With the help of the tips mentioned above, you can easily transform your small area into a garden. Not only will your plants thrive, you will also discover your life to be more peaceful and relaxing. Just make sure that you create an environment where you can relax, such as a garden.
